CPA and Bookkeeping Dallas AlternativeThe returnThe tax return is prepared from books the bank agrees with.

The year you sign should be a year you have already seen, month by month. You get a return prepared from closed books, so you are not signing a guess. Steven Palmieri prepares that return on this practice, as Tax CFO and as the Entrepreneur's CFO.

The return can only tell a closed year

If the months are open, the return is a guess with a signature line under it. We would rather wait for a month the bank agrees with than file a story the books will contradict later.

Owner pay has to land on the entity return and on your 1040 as the same figure. When the two piles disagree, you spend the summer explaining a number you did not recognize.

Last year's mismatches are the part we repair once the bank and the books are side by side. This month gets closed while you still know it, before those details fade. The choices that are still open are the part you can look toward before the year shuts.

Choices that are still open

Owner pay can still be set while the year is open. A purchase you have been delaying can be timed on purpose. A quiet month can be read for what it is, instead of being a surprise in the spring.

Past the last day of December, owner pay and a purchase you delayed are history, and the return can only describe them. They cannot be chosen. We will tell you which of them is still a choice, and which one is already history, without promising a result.

We do not lend money against a tax bill, and we do not tell you what the return will show before the months are closed. The useful part is a year you can see clearly enough to decide.

Who answers in July

A lot of people hire someone for April and then cannot get a call returned in July. If you already have two people, you may get two voicemails. The question still needs one answer.

We stay with the file after the return goes in. A question about a deposit, a notice that asks for a document, or a month that will not tie, comes back to the same practice. If a notice needs someone to stand in at an examination, that part is outside this work, and the Disclosures page says so.

An LLC still has one tax election even when two vendors send invoices. We ask which election is on file before we answer a flat question about the entity. Payday can be stood up on the service you already operate. The run itself stays on that service, in your hands.

A contractor form that never left the books shows up in February as a vendor the return has never met. We want that form on the month the vendor was paid. A late partnership schedule is the same kind of paper. It arrives, and we put it with the year it belongs to, instead of leaving it in a pile nobody owns.

What the first return together looks like

We start from the closed months, list what is still open, and tell you what the return can honestly say. If last year needs repair, that repair is its own piece of work, priced before it starts.

You should be able to explain the return to yourself when it is done. When you still cannot explain the return in your own words, we are not done with it.

The Dallas Marathon usually loops White Rock Lake in December, and we can cheer that loop the same as you do. That is also the month owner pay has to be chosen if it is still a choice, and after the year ends we can only report that pay.

Tell us where the year stands

Say whether the months are closed, or say you are not sure. Both are useful.
